Seborrheic eczema is a chronic skin condition occurring in young children and adults often between the ages of 30 and 40 years of age.
Symptoms
Seborrheic eczema is easily recognisable by flaky/scaly eczema that is yellow or white with red skin underneath. Seborrheic eczema occurs in areas with a lot of sebaceous glands, such as the scalp, nose, face, armpits or groin, but can also occur in skin folds.
Cause
No one is quite sure why seborrheic dermatitis occurs. It may be related to a fungal infection of the skin and genetic or environmental factors are also suspected to be involved.
Treatment
The usual treatment is topical treatment with antifungal and anti-inflammatory creams. Shampoo with coal tar can also help.
