How to See a Private Psychologist in the UK

If you're considering private psychological therapy, the process is usually simple, flexible, and much quicker than waiting for NHS services. Dr. Dropin offers straightforward online booking, free introductory calls, and both in-person and video appointments.

Here’s what to expect:

1. Book a Free Introductory Call

At Dr. Dropin, our psychologists offer a 15 minutes free telephone consultation. The discovery call gives you the chance to explain what you’re looking for, ask questions, and to discuss with the therapist about the next steps if therapy could be suitable for you.

2. Choose Your Appointment Type

You can usually select:

  1. In-person sessions at our clinic
  2. Online video sessions for convenience and flexibility

Both formats provide confidential, professional support.

3. Attend Your First Session

In your first appointment, your psychologist will explore what’s brought you to therapy, discuss your goals, and agree on a plan. No special preparation is needed - just come as you are.

4. Ongoing Therapy

Private sessions are typically 50 minutes or longer, and can be short- or long-term depending on your needs. All therapists use tailored evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) or Schema Therapy.

At Dr.Dropin we can support you with challenges or themes such as:
